Ulta Birthday Gift: How to Get It and What to Expect

To get the Ulta birthday gift, join Ulta Beauty Rewards (free, no purchase), save your birthday in your profile and opt in to Ulta’s marketing emails or app offers before your birthday month starts. During your birthday month, take the coupon code from your birthday email or the Ulta app to any Ulta store and redeem it with no purchase at all. Online, the gift is free too, but only inside an order with something else in the bag. Every tier qualifies, including the free one. The gifts are deluxe samples, and they run out.

The rules, from Ulta’s own terms Verified October 2026

These come from the Ulta Beauty Rewards terms and conditions (marked “REVISED August 16th, 2026”) and Ulta’s birthday rewards page, both loaded on October 23, 2026.

  • Who qualifies: “all Members are eligible to receive a birthday gift each year, while supplies last.” No tier and no spending threshold.
  • Joining is free: “No purchase is necessary to obtain membership.” You must be 13 or older and a US resident, with one account per person.
  • What you have to have on file: members “with a valid email or mobile app, and their birthday entered in their Account profile” are offered the gift “once per calendar year, during their birthday month.”
  • The deadline: “Make sure you’ve added your birthday to your profile before your birthday month.”
  • The bonus: two times points on qualifying purchases during your birthday month.

The opt-in rule nobody mentions

The terms page is the one most lists quote, and it stops at “a valid email or mobile app.” The birthday page’s footnote goes further: “Your birth date must be in your member profile, and you must be opted in to receive marketing communications prior to your birthday month to be eligible for this benefit.”

So the gift is paid for with marketing messages, and if you unsubscribed from Ulta’s emails at some point, you may have switched it off without knowing. Two things to check five or six weeks before your birthday month: the birthday field in your profile, and your communication settings.

This is the honest trade with every birthday club, and it’s why I recommend a separate inbox just for them. The setup is in how birthday clubs work.

In store: free, but you need the code Verified October 2026

The terms are blunt: “No purchase is necessary when redeeming your birthday gift in store.” This is the real no-purchase freebie, and it’s the route I’d plan around.

The catch is the code. Per Ulta’s FAQ, gifts are redeemed “at any Ulta Beauty store during your birthday month with a valid coupon code found in the Ulta Beauty app or your birthday email by showing the coupon code to the cashier.” No code, no gift, so find the email (or open the app) before you drive over. If you’d rather not install the app, the email works the same way. The other no-app birthday routes are in birthday freebies without downloading 12 apps.

Two more in-store details from the same FAQ:

  • “In store assortment may vary from online assortment.” The choices you see online aren’t promised at your store.
  • “Quantities of all gifts are limited and only available while supplies last!” Go early in the month rather than on the 30th.

Online and pickup: the gift is free, the order isn’t

This is where people expect a free sample in the mail and get a checkout total instead. To redeem online or in the app, per the birthday page:

  • you must be logged in to your rewards account;
  • your “subtotal must be greater than $0”;
  • the bag “must include one non-UB Marketplace product” (Ulta’s third-party sellers don’t count);
  • “shipping rates apply.”

Buy-online-pickup-in-store orders “require a purchase to redeem birthday gift” as well. The gift itself applies automatically: sign in during your birthday month, add one of the listed gifts to your bag, and it shows as free in the cart. Ulta also lets you use one other valid coupon on the same order.

So online is a fine route if you were going to buy something anyway. If not, the store is the only way it’s genuinely free.

Also excluded, per the terms and birthday page: orders through DoorDash, Instacart, Uber Eats or TikTok Shop, auto-replenish orders, and anything outside the US. “No substitutes or rainchecks,” and one coupon per member.

What the gift actually is Verified October 2026

Set expectations here: it’s a sample, not a full-size product. On October 23, 2026 the birthday page listed nine online gift choices, every one a deluxe sample, travel size or mini:

BrandGift (as listed by Ulta)
Benefit Cosmetics24-HR Brow Setter Clear Brow Gel, deluxe sample
IGKExpensive Hair Clear Gloss Top Coat, travel size
DIVIScalp Serum, deluxe sample
MatrixFood for Soft Oil Multi-Use Hair Oil Serum, deluxe sample
CliniqueMoisture Surge 100H Auto-Replenishing Hydrator, deluxe sample
Kiehl’s1cc CollaShot Plump Serum, deluxe sample
DermalogicaDaily Microfoliant, deluxe sample
Peter Thomas RothWater Drench Moisturizer, deluxe sample
UnleashiaSunset Dazzle Gloss Balm mini

You pick one. Ulta “reserves the right to change the gifts offered at any time,” so treat this table as a dated snapshot of what the choice looks like, not a promise for your month. I haven’t printed a dollar value, because Ulta’s pages don’t give one.

Platinum and Diamond: one extra perk, not worth chasing

Higher tiers get something more. Platinum (reached by spending $500 at Ulta in a calendar year) and Diamond ($1,200) each get “an extra annual birthday perk,” which the terms describe as “currently, a perk sent via email and in the Ulta Beauty app, subject to change.” The birthday page currently describes it as an “extra $10 off in store or online,” labelled “An exclusive perk for Diamond and Platinum members.”

That’s a discount, not a freebie, and it sits behind hundreds of dollars of spending. Nobody should shop toward it. If you’re already there, use it; if you’re not, the free-tier gift is the same gift.

How Ulta compares with the rest of the list

Ulta is one of the friendliest birthday programs I track: no purchase in store, no annual purchase rule (unlike the Starbucks birthday drink), and every tier included. Its weak points are the opt-in requirement and the “while supplies last” line. The full comparison, including Sephora’s in-store gift, is in my verified birthday freebies list.

A checklist for your birthday month

  • Before the month starts: join (in store or at ulta.com), save your birthday, and confirm you’re opted in to emails or app offers.
  • Day 1 of your birthday month: look for the birthday email or the offer in the app, and note the code.
  • Early in the month: take the code to a store and redeem it, no purchase needed. Or add the gift to an online order you were already placing.
  • While you’re there: purchases that month earn double points, which only matters if you were buying anyway.

FAQ: Ulta birthday gift

Do you have to buy something to get the Ulta birthday gift?

Not in store. Ulta’s terms say “No purchase is necessary when redeeming your birthday gift in store.” Online and pickup orders need a merchandise subtotal above $0, and shipping rates apply online.

When do you have to sign up for the Ulta birthday gift?

Before your birthday month begins. Your birthday must be in your profile, and you must be opted in to marketing communications, before the month starts.

Does the free Ulta Beauty Rewards tier get a birthday gift?

Yes. The terms say “all Members are eligible.” Platinum and Diamond members get an extra perk on top, which is currently $10 off.

How long do you have to use the Ulta birthday gift?

Your birthday month, while supplies last. The coupon is valid “during Member’s birthday month,” once per calendar year.

Why didn’t I get an Ulta birthday email?

Usually because your birthday wasn’t saved before the month started, or you’d opted out of marketing messages. Check both in your account, then contact Ulta’s guest services if both were in place.
