• Limited-time, while supplies last. Amazon’s own wording, so it is not a guaranteed entitlement.

What’s actually in it

I’m not going to put a dollar value on it. The only figure Amazon prints is the $35.00 promotional balance in that checkout box, and Amazon doesn’t call that the box’s value. Treat it as a nice bonus on a registry you were building anyway, not as a reason to switch retailers.

The benefit that’s actually worth more than the box

While you’re in there: Amazon’s registry completion discount is 15%, capped at $300 in savings, and it’s the real money in this program. Verified October 2026 Per Amazon’s completion discount help page, it applies “on orders up to a combined value of $2,000, for a maximum discount of $300.00.” Your registry must have been active for at least 14 days, and the discount “begins 60 days prior to the Arrival Date you entered” and “expires 90 days after the Arrival Date.” Only the primary registrant can redeem it.

Three rules on that page matter if you plan to use it during holiday sales: it “may not be combined with other offers, such as Lightning Deals”; it applies to at most 50 items in one cart; and if you return something bought with it, “the redeemed discount will not be refundable.” So a deeply discounted Lightning Deal and the 15% don’t stack. Compare the two and pick the bigger saving.

That window is the whole strategy. Register early enough that the 14 days are long past, then hold the big unbought items — car seat, monitor, mattress, stroller — for a single sweep once the discount opens. Amazon’s registry returns page also says gifts from your registry “are eligible for free returns within 365 days of the receipt of your shipment,” which is the quiet benefit that saves you when you get three of the same bouncer.

Should you do all three retailer boxes?

Yes, and there’s no penalty for it — they’re independent programs at independent retailers. The thresholds differ enough that it’s worth knowing which is easiest to clear: Amazon and Target both want 10 items and over $10 (both re-checked October 2026), while Walmart wanted 20 items, a seven-day-old registry and $25 and quoted 10 to 12 weeks to ship when I last could load its terms in July. You’re not the primary registrant. Only the primary owner sees the claim button.

Your $10 hasn’t shipped yet. Ordered isn’t the same as shipped. Wait for the dispatch email.

You bought a gift card or Prime. Neither counts toward the threshold.
