Target Price Match 2026: What It Matches Now

Target’s price match no longer covers other retailers. Under its current Price Match Guarantee, Target matches only its own prices: if you buy something at Target and the identical item is cheaper at Target.com, in a Target store or through a Target Circle deal, it will refund the difference if you ask within 14 days of purchase. Amazon and Walmart prices don’t qualify. That makes it a different tool than many people remember: a safety net for when Target’s own price drops after you buy, especially in November and December.

What Target matches now Verified October 2026

From Target’s Price Match Guarantee help page, loaded October 7, 2026:

“We’ll match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target and then find the identical item for less at Target.com, in Target stores or with a Target Circle™ deal (deals that apply automatically upon identifying yourself as a Target Circle member). Price matches may be requested at time of purchase or within 14 days after purchase.”

That covers three sources of a lower price:

  • Target.com, for something you bought in a store, and the reverse: “We match Target.com prices on in-store Target purchases and in-store Target prices for Target.com purchases.”
  • Your own store’s shelf price when it drops after you buy.
  • Target Circle deals, the kind that apply automatically once you identify as a member. Proof needs “member sign in, sign up or mobile number entered at checkout.” Circle is free to join.

What it doesn’t cover:

  • Other retailers. Older articles, and a lot of people’s memory, describe a version that matched Amazon and Walmart. The current policy names only Target’s own prices.
  • Another Target store’s price. “In-store price matches from other Target stores are excluded.”
  • Comparison-shopping sites. Target’s answer is no: the price “must be validated by a team member on Target.com or Target’s digital ad.”

How to ask for one

For a store purchase: go to Guest Services (or ask at checkout) with your receipt and the lower price open on your phone. “Screenshots or pictures cannot be accepted.” A team member checks it on a Target device. When you use the Target app, it “must be showing the price of the current store location.”

For a Target.com or app order: chat with Target online or call Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869, with the order number ready.

Either way, keep the receipt. The policy says “Original receipts, physical or digital, or packing slips are required for price adjustments up to 14 days after purchase.”

What can’t be price matched

The exclusions list is long, and some of it matters for families. Per the same page, a price match can’t be combined with:

  • Target Circle Bonuses, the just-for-you offers you tap to add (different from automatic Circle deals, which can be matched);
  • gift card offers, such as “buy this, get a Target GiftCard,” which also block a match if the item “currently has a Target GiftCard offered as part of a promotion”;
  • Registry completion coupons and other Target coupons.

And these items or prices aren’t eligible at all:

  • clearance, closeout and liquidation prices;
  • open-box, used or refurbished items;
  • “deals that require a minimum purchase,” bundles, “free items,” and rebates;
  • pre-orders and typo prices.

Two family-specific notes. First, if you’re working through a Target baby registry, its completion coupon and a price match can’t be stacked on the same item, so use whichever saves more. Second, manufacturer coupons “will be applied after a price match is made, for in-store purchases only.”

Price match isn’t available on Target.com or app prices in Alaska and Hawaii. Items don’t need to be in stock, but there are no rain checks for out-of-stock price matches.

Why this matters in November and December

This site doesn’t publish Black Friday deal lists; they go stale in hours and they’re everywhere else. The price match is the piece of the season that lasts.

The 14-day window is what makes it useful. If you buy a car seat, a high chair or a pack of diapers at Target in early November and Target’s own price drops before your 14 days are up, you can claim the difference. You don’t need to wait for a sale you’re guessing at.

A few habits make that work:

  • Save receipts in the app (or keep the paper) for anything over a few dollars.
  • Check the price of big purchases once or twice before the 14 days run out. The same discipline for Amazon prices, with price-history tools, is in Amazon price tracking.
  • Watch for gift-card promotions. If the lower price comes with a “get a GiftCard” offer, the policy excludes it, so compare what the gift card is worth to you.

If you were planning a car seat purchase around Target’s trade-in event, note that the fall 2026 car seat trade-in has ended, so the price match is the protection you have until the next one.
