Pizza Hut BOOK IT! 2026-27: How Kids Earn Free Pizza
Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! is a free reading program for kids in PreK through 6th grade. A child who meets a monthly reading goal earns a certificate for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza, up to one a month. The school-year program runs October 1 through March 31. The catch most parents miss is that you can’t enroll your child in the school-year program yourself. A classroom teacher, a school librarian or a homeschooling parent enrolls. Parents sign up directly only for the summer leg, Summer of Stories, which runs June 1 through August 31.
Who can enroll, and why parents can’t Verified October 2026
All of this comes from the BOOK IT! FAQ, which states the basics plainly: the program serves “PreK–6th grade students,” and “This program is completely free.”
Who is eligible for the school-year program:
- Classroom teachers at accredited public, private and charter schools, enrolling individually for their own classes “using their school-issued email.”
- School librarians, if they teach their own class or a teacher authorizes them.
- Homeschool teachers, who “may enroll their own children.”
Who is not eligible, in the FAQ’s own words: “PTA/PTO groups or parents,” before- and after-school programs, campus-wide enrollments, homeschool co-ops “where the student does not attend full-time,” and daycare or preschool programs run at home addresses.
So if your child attends school, the answer to “how do I sign my kid up?” is ask the teacher. Each teacher enrolls separately, and the FAQ asks teachers to make sure “your school authorizes the program and that there is a participating Pizza Hut nearby” first.
About timing: the FAQ’s only enrollment-deadline entry is for last school year: “Enrollment ended October 3rd” for 2025/2026. It doesn’t give a 2026-27 date. If this year’s deadline matches last year’s, it has already passed, so ask your child’s teacher this week rather than next month.
How the free pizza works
The mechanics are the same every month of the school year:
- The teacher sets the reading goal and tracks it. Parents don’t have an account for school-year tracking; the FAQ says the teacher “will track your child’s reading in their digital dashboard.”
- Certificates are issued from the 1st to the 15th of the next month. For example, “rewards for October can be issued through November 15th.”
- The certificate is digital. Teachers can print it, send it home with the child or email it.
- It expires 30 days after it’s claimed.
- One pizza per child per month, and “the student must be present.”
To redeem, the child can show the certificate to the team at a Pizza Hut, or you enter the code in the Pizza Hut app or on pizzahut.com. Carryout is the free online route. The FAQ notes that delivery “requires an order that exceeds the free personal pizza,” and delivery minimums apply, so choosing delivery turns a free pizza into a purchase. Verified October 2026
From October through March, a child who meets every monthly goal can earn up to six free Personal Pan Pizzas in a school year. April, May and September are “non-program months,” so no rewards are issued then.
The homeschool route Verified October 2026
Homeschooling parents get the one direct way in during the school year. The FAQ’s rules:
- The child must be PreK–6th grade and must not attend “another educational facility.”
- Enrollment happens in the BOOK IT! mobile app (Google Play or the App Store), and new enrollments go through “a 72-hour review period” before the account is active.
- Up to five children per household.
- You choose what they read and set the goal. Profiles should be set up “for October 1” for the school program.
You don’t need to print anything: the code works online or shown on your phone at the restaurant.
Summer of Stories: the parent route
Summer of Stories is the part of BOOK IT! that parents run themselves, from June 1 to August 31. Per the FAQ, children “must read 20 minutes a day for at least 15 days” in a summer month to earn that month’s pizza. You enroll in the app, add every child during setup (“Adding additional children after enrollment is not an available option”), and claim each month’s code from the 1st to the 15th of the next month.
Two rules trip people up:
- The app and child profile must be at least 15 days old before you can claim.
- You can backdate reading by only seven days. Download the app after the 15th of a month and you’ve missed that month’s pizza.
Enrollment doesn’t carry over: “All participants must enroll again as new for each program year and program type.”
The honest read
BOOK IT! passes every test this site applies. It asks for no card number (the FAQ says the program does “not request, collect, or store payment information”), there’s no survey wall and nothing to recruit. The pizza is real and the program has run since 1984. The main limits are access during the school year, which depends on your child’s teacher, and the habit of letting certificates expire. Put the 30-day expiry on your calendar the day the certificate comes home.
It pairs well with the other free reading routes: free books by mail and your library card’s extras. For the rest of the free-meal calendar, see kids eat free.
