I was honored to be invited to the Walt Disney Animation Studios to learn about the making of Wreck-It Ralph (DVD/Blu Ray available March 5, 2013!).
I am such a geek for how stuff is made and Disney films are no exception. I grew up on Disney animated movies – the classics like Cinderella, Snow White, and Peter Pan, and the new digital animation films like Cars, Wall-E, and Up which are classics in themselves. Add the retro-game inspired Wreck-It Ralph to that list!
I was honored to meet the Motion Capture Team for Wreck-It Ralph and even got to use the camera that is used to film Disney digital animation. It’s fascinating! Using the process that Disney does is very similar to filming tangible objects – there is the ability to move the camera around, set the scene up differently, and try new angles – all in a matter of minutes and the ease of moving a camera instead of animating the scene that way to start. This technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to animated films and tv. I have to say I was enthralled with the whole process!
Here Alex and Justin from Disney Animation Studios talk all about how it works:
I got the chance to try it out for myself too!
Wreck-It Ralph is available NOW in Digital Copy Pre-Order the DVD/Blu Ray Edition HERE (available March 5th).
