Rite Aid – New Coupon Policy

by Carol on May 26, 2011

Rite Aid has a NEW Coupon Policy. Looks like they are tightening their reigns on a few things to curb extreme couponers:

  • Rite Aid will accept internet / print at home coupons up to the equivalent value of $5.00 off. Not a big deal – Ihardly ever see high values IPs – if you do they are often fraudulent (see http://www.cents-off.com/ if you think you got a fake coupon)
  • Rite Aid accepts Buy One, Get One Free coupons, however only one coupon can be used for each pair of items purchased. A customer can use one “cents off” coupon in conjunction with the item they are purchasing on a Buy One Get One Free promotion (or with a Buy One Get One Free coupon), although the value of the cents off coupon cannot exceed the selling price of the item. So this means you CANNOT use 2 coupons for a B1G1 sale. Bummer! This was always a nice way to stock up (a little!) on things like razors, deodorant, and other toiletries.
  • Buy One Get One Free coupons cannot be used in conjunction with a Buy One Get One Free promotion. This one kind of surprised me. Most stores will accept this.
  • Rite Aid may accept up to 4 identical coupons for the same number of qualifying items as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers within the store manager’s sole discretion. This is no doubt a direct  result of the impact of extreme couponers and shows like TLC’s Extreme Couponing.
I can tell you that this is most likely a share of Rite Aid’s issues with shelf clearers AND a result of pressure from manufacturers. Does that 4 coupons maximum look familiar? Look at just about any Proctor & Gamble coupon and you will see the same restriction. And as Proctor & Gamble distributes more coupons than any other company, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
