(closed)Baby Love Cookbook Review & Giveaway! Ends 10/22

by Carol on October 8, 2010

Finally, the must-have cookbook is here for millions of busy parents who have taken on a healthier approach to food–less processed, more organic–and who want to feed their little ones easy-to-make, cost-effective, completely nutritious and delicious meals. With more than sixty gourmet-inspired recipes and dozens of Chef Geoff’s tips for quick and nutritious preparation, parents everywhere will be in on the Baby Love secret: that making fresh baby food is pretty simple!

Baby Love was created by chief MSNBC correspondent and anchor Nora O’Donnell and husband chef Geoff Tracy when looking for a healthy and yummy alternative to processed baby food for their children.

There has been plenty of buzz aboout this cookbook. I have seen it in magazines such as People and Parenting, plus the Today Show. I was excited to be sent a copy of Baby Love to review:

This cookbook came at the perfect time for me. The twins are just beginning to taste solid foods and I really didn’t know where to begin.

I have been following the “green veggies, then orange veggies, then fruit” format. So far Dylan and Riley have tasted the green veggies, but I really didn’t like giving them food from a jar and I had no idea how to make baby food. Luckily Baby Love is an easy-to-understand cookbook that tells you where and how to start.

I decided to start easy and make “Perfectly Basic Peas“.
My supplies (bag of peas, bowl of ice water, strainer, blender, baby food mill [didn't use on this though], ice trays, Baby Love. I also had a pot of boiling water).

Rinsing the ice crystals off the frozen peas

Boiling peas for 3 minutes

Getting ready to blanche the peas

Peas in ice water for 3 minutes. This halts the cooking and helps them retain their bright green color!

I blended the peas with some water in my little blender. I could also use the baby food mill for this but using a blender is way faster and easier!

Getting ready for the freezer! My one $1.39 bag of peas yielded about 32oz of baby food! That’s a lot of money saved. PLUS I know exactly what’s in their food since I made it!

BONUS: If you happen to spill peas on the floor, just call your dog (or dogs over) lol! Peas are good for them!

Dylan and Riley LOVED it! I mixed it with the rice cereal because I know they like that, but they have since had it without the rice cereal and can’t get enough. The Perfectly Basic Peas were so easy to make and gave me over a week’s worth (for both of them). Plus, the frozen cubes fit really well into the Baby Safe Feeders I sometimes use. Baby Love gave me the confidence to make Dylan and Riley’s food. With super easy recipes and an all-natural approach, this is a cookbook that will be getting a lot of use in my kitchen. I have also since introduced my twins to Baby Guacamole and plan on even more yummy dishes.

Baby Love also has a section for “grown-up” dishes too (including a scrumptious margarita recipe)!
